No more orders

I'm officially not taking any more orders for the remainder of the year.

Merritt-Murphy Wedding

This weekend I had the pleasure of making a wedding cake for a couple getting married in Camden. The venue was decorated so beautifully with a black, white and red scheme. Stunning! My bestie, Steph, made the 2 hour delivery with me due to husband's absenteeism during hunting season. He really stepped up Friday night though when I became ill and couldn't finish the cakes. He did as much as he possibly could then I got up early Saturday (feeling a lot better) and finished the cakes. Congratulations to the newly weds.

Kaylee's Party

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Sorry I haven't blogged much lately. Between raising a family, working full time, making cakes full time, and volunteering whenever possible I'm doing good just to stay afloat each day. Last month my baby girl turned 10! Here's a few pictures of her and even more from her party.

Kaylee Michelle born 10/21/99

This is a picture of her taken this summer on vacation.
It was also her dog's, Sofie's, birthday. So I included her on the invitations.
Kay didn't want anything fancy. Just a one tier hot pink cake (even though nothing in her party was pink) with ganache.

Here's our little pumpkin display. Note to self: next time blow the candles out before you go to bed. Ooops!

The candy buffet was a HUGE hit at the party. The kids really liked making their own goody bags.
I also made these custom lollipops for the party.

Some of the kids went on a scavenger hunt to find some of Kaylee's birthday money.

Here's me as a honeybee and Kay as a kitty.

Me and my punk rocker sister.

Sis and my newest niece, Addi.

Candy corn bingo was also a big hit!!

My sister's little punk rocker, Olivia. She was rockin' that costume. Thanks to Haley Chavis for making the tutus on such short notice.

My little fireman.

Rockin' Cakes

Friday, October 16, 2009

Here's a couple of cakes I made this week. The first one was for a sweet girl who just turned 17. Oh, how I would love to be 17 again. No worries, no bills, no responsibilities. Her father ordered it and said to do whatever I wanted. He gave me the flavor cake and I was free to do what I wanted with the design. I snooped around her facebook and discovered she liked Ed Hardy so I went with that. :)

This guitar cake was made for one of the many teams that will be walking in Little Rock tomorrow at the Race for a Cure event. Their team name is Team Fabulous- Rockers for Knockers. Too cute! Hopefully, I'll see them tomorrow while I'm walking with my team "Fight Like a Girl".

Hey there, Hi there, Ho there.
You're as welcome as can be!

This cake went on top of a tiered cupcake stand and was served with Elmo cupcakes (that I didn't get a picture of).

Deer Mount Cake

Monday, September 28, 2009

It's finally finished! Jon and I worked really hard this week on a deer mount cake for a groom. He made a plywood base, PVC pipe support structure, and some kind of metal rods for the "rack".

I borrowed a deer mount from our deer camp (thanks Dr. Joe) since Jon doesn't own one of his own (I'm a bad wife). Here's the plaque and the horns. The plaque is chocolate cake covered in fondant painted with a wood grain technique. The horns are white chocolate. I wasn't happy with the color of them in this photo so I ended up repainting them later on in the process.

The head was made out of rice krispy treats and the rest of his body was made out of chocolate cake.
Here it is after I carved the cake to match up with the shape of the head and neck.
Next step was to buttercream the whole thing.
Then fondant. I texturized it a bit to resemble hair then painted it.

Here's the final product. I learned a lot by making this and will do some things different if I ever get the chance to make it again. So look fwd to a more impressive deer next time.
Here's a picture Jon took with his phone. This is after it arrived at it's final destination. Thanks for looking!
